Black Americans have a rich tradition of ghostly folk tales, but also a heritage of genuine pain and threat that has made it, at times, difficult to gain the emotional distance necessary to enjoy a good, cathartic fright. Prolific writers Tananarive Due and Steven Barnes have created their first short horror film, “DANGER WORD” based on their short story, and the novel “Devil’s Wake.”

Gwynnis Mosby, founder of the Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy and the annual Professional Makeup Artist Conference (PMAC), along with instructors Natalie Spencer, Selena Miller, Jusan Jones, Rio Sirah, and Sheldon Horton, will demonstrate the role of makeup artistry in filmmaking.

These professionals are skilled in beauty, fantasy, body art, and special effects. They will demonstrate various film makeup techniques, while Gwynnis Mosby discusses the role of makeup artistry in film and the future in film makeup artistry. It’s a craft that takes words off of a page and creates a real character from the writer’s vision.
